Happy Hallowe'en

We did actually buy some sweets for the kiddiwinks this year. Then we hid in the dining room with the music loud enough to drown out the doorbell and ate the lot. Tee hee.
And yes, I know it's an old idea, but it's what popped into my head.

Thursday 30 October 2008

Hey, look. It's me again!

I know what the cynics out there are thinking: why spend half the afternoon painting a picture which someone could have knocked up in photoshop in five mins. To which I reply..Leave me alone...I don't feel very well.

Happy Diwali (For yesterday)

And look, there's a happy Ganesh having a bath in an eighties style river.

Balzac

I was honestly joking when I said I'd draw this. But I couldn't resist. Especially when I saw a picture of Balzac.

Tuesday 21 October 2008

Rimbaud

This is the first in a series of humorous cards about the Romantic movement in France. You see, I wanted a topic I knew would appeal to everyone; young and old. And what brings people together more that Romantic literature?!? Tee hee.

Maybe I should do one about Balzac. His name always makes me giggle like a schoolchild. He wouldn't have lasted five minutes as a supply teacher with a name like that!

The B Team

Now... this was intially supposed to be a picture of "The B Team"; a group of mercenaries, who if you have a problem, and no-one else can help, and The A Team are on holiday or ill, maybe you can hire The B Team. An ugly Face, a skinny BA with a 'fro etc but as I started to colour it it started to turn into some kind of zombie graffiti gang. Oh well. And no, I don't know why Murdock is a pig...or should that be Pob.

Magnum

For copyright reasons any similarity between my work entitled "Magnum, a taste of the eighties" and either the Unilever choc-ice range or the eighties Hawaiian based Tom Sellick vehicle is purely co-incidental. But whilst we're on the subject of Magnum check out the intro. It's hilarious. My favourite part is Magnum helping the young lady to swim; he's such a cheeky scamp!

Mothboy

Mothboy is playing the Foundry on the 25th of October. And whenever I mention Mothboy I always drag out my lovely artwork for the album Deviance. Look at him, he's GORGEOUS!! Tee hee.

Desmond Tutu

When my wife saw this she told me off for being rude about Desmond Tutu as he's such a lovely man. So, let me just get this straight, I am not saying that Desmond Tutu is a sloth. What I'm saying is that it's a good name for a sloth. And if you're reading Des...big love.

Benjamin et Virginie

It's the first anniversary of my wife's cousin and her husband!! Hoorah!! As a present I did this painting of them on their big day. It was actually suppose to be a wedding present...but... better late than never as the lazy guy always says.

Camden Cockerel

Umm...not sure where this idea came from. I've not been sleeping well recently, maybe that will explain it.
The close up of Camden Cockerel's eye at the end reminds me of poor Skipper the Eye Child. Talking of which, I genuinely find the song Garth sings to Skipper and his dead grasshopper son quite moving. Tee hee.

Blue Bunny

My wife suggested - for no apparent reason - that I draw a rabbit in a hoodie. Well I'm supposed to be getting my CV up to date and starting to apply for jobs so of course I spent the day drawing this. It's been a very productive day all in all.

Christopher Gookus

I've been working for a while on a graphic novel type thingy...God, I hate that term...what to call it though; comic? Well whatever you call it here are a few pages. As you can see it's full of placeholder text at the mo as I haven't worked on the words. Mind you I could do an Arzach and leave it as just images.

SFW Sushi

My friend Simon (Mothboy Check it out!!...as they say) requested a drawing for his birthday. But not of an animal or anything interesting like that, he wanted one of himself - he's like that. This is what he got.

I think he should use it for the cover of his next album.

Urban Bush Baby

My sister-in-law recently requested that everyone she knew draw her an animal for her birthday. As always I got a little carried away.
I think it'd make a good cover for a local listings magazine: "In this week's Urban Bush Baby: Brendan Canning talks to us about his excellent new album Something For All Of Us; Rachel Weisz talks to us about something or other in a lovely dress; and a free copy of Hewligan's Haircut for every reader."
It'd be a niche market admittedly.

Have you seen Jasper Johns?

Our beautiful ginger cat (surrogate child), Jasper Johns, has gone missing. We've just moved to London - Alexandra Park area - and the little swine sodded off at the first opportunity he could get. I hope he's okay and that he comes back soon as things aren't anywhere near as lovely without him.

I'm going to keep a record of the time he's missing - what we're up to, our efforts to find him etc - and hopefully it'll have a happy ending. I daydreamt the other day thay my wife, Jasper Johns and I all had a lovely holiday on a tropical island. I think maybe I'm not getting enough vitamin C.
